“A wine in perfect balance between the old and new world style”
From the oldest oenological tradition, a wine characterised by fruit and freshness, born from Sangiovese and other indigenous red grape varieties.
Medium-light-bodied, with juicy tannins and good acidity, this wine easily accompanies many foods.
Vintage conditions
In Italy, 2024 was characterised by heavy rainfall in the Centre-North and drought in the South. While Northern Italy and the islands recorded a loss of production due to disease (excess rain and humidity) or drought, Central Italy recorded more abundant harvests due to a more regular climate. In Tuscany, the spring rains created some health problems, but at the same time provided the necessary water reserves to cope with the strong summer heat. In general, production was abundant. The harvest period was characterised by strong variability, which conditioned the ripening of the grapes. The harvest of white grapes began as early as mid-August. September was very rainy and caused serious difficulties in planning the harvest, which was managed according to the degree of ripeness of the grapes, although the condition of the soil affected the management of the harvest. Definitely a very different vintage than the previous ones, low alcohol and very high acidity are a peculiar aspect of the vintage, resulting in a Sangiovese that goes back to its roots: light body with bright fruit and very long taste. Very good Merlot, with good concentration and great balance carried by a freshness not seen in recent years. Cabernet suffered from the September rains that brought a strong dilution of the matrix in the berries and a strong slowdown in phenolic ripening.
After a fairly mild winter with little rainfall, spring started slowly, with slightly lower than average temperatures, which delayed vegetative regeneration. May throughout until mid-June extremely rainy. The season was characterized by heavy pressure from Peronospora, caused by weather conditions that also made it difficult to enter the field and work to protect the vines. Downy mildew damage with production losses in Tuscany averaging 30% (damage spread throughout Italy, France and Spain). A record heat in July, with temperatures exceeding 40°C, but thanks to vineyard operations we were able to protect the clusters from the high temperatures, and the vineyards did not suffer from drought. The entire harvest period with no rain and very high temperatures, even above 25°C throughout October. In this vintage we have wines with medium structure and good flavour profiles. Good quality of tannins, although full phenolic maturity was not achieved in all vineyards.
An unusual year. A very regular phenological development of the vine in the bud phase, with a splendid flowering favoured by the warm and dry weather. From spring onwards, average temperatures began to rise, particularly in May, with summer temperatures and torrid weather during the summer period, all combined with a lack of rain. Water stress affected the entire summer period, leading to an acceleration of fruit set and veraison in the vines. After the first ten days of August, although average temperatures remained high, thunderstorms caused considerable hail damage, affecting the vast majority of our vineyards. As always, the vine has shown great resilience, despite the vineyards have been put to the test, the careful management has guaranteed an adequate quality of the fruit: the vineyards that survived the hailstorm have given us a good quality to the excellent.
Considerably scarcer than average in terms of quantity, but capable, in every region of Italy, of overcoming climatic excesses unscathed, providing healthy and beautiful grapes, balanced in terms of alcohol and acidity, and heralding great wines.
After the April frost event, in Tuscany, the unusual heat and drought in summer further effected grapes reduction (the youngest vines did not reach the full growth) and translated into low yields as well. September was propitious: sunny, with good temperature ranges day and night, some gentle rain and good ventilation thus enabling us to harvest some very well ripened sangiovese grapes in October.
The result was : very low quantity and yeald but some very high quality Sangiovese grapes from the oldest vineyards, surprising for complexity and elegance, definitely above our expectations this year.
The quality was jeopardized by late September and October rainfalls. This year the location and exposure of each vineyard made the difference: elegant and fresh grapes lacking tannic density from some vineyards – very good grapes with excellent character and spice, high gradations but also good minerality in the vineyards in front of them. Very poor quantity. Average good quality.
Eccellent vintage either by volume and quality. Very balanced, healthy, perfectly ripe grapes, by all vineyards – different zones, for altitudes, exposure and microclimate it has been uniform, everywhere. We had peaks of unbelievable excellence, the structure of the grapes has also allowed us to macerate for a long time, and therefore we expect red wines that will express themselves well in the long term, the Sangiovese has given great results.
The weather was quite unusual in 2018, beginning with very rainy and cold conditions in February and March. While this precipitation was needed, bud break started late. While June and July were ideal, the conditions were quite variable from July 20 to August 23, with sultry heat and often afternoon thunderstorms. The last big storm hit the area end of August some later little rain enabled the grapes to reach their full maturation. At harvest the grapes showed wonderful condition, very fresh and well ripe, giving a classic style wine with plenty of harmony and balance. The quantity were also good. Before the summer we expected to start the harvest at the end of September but the Sangiovese was ready before then in the majority of the territory.
Frosts in April (18th/20th ), have hit some zones, going to jeopardize part of the budding that had been from good to excellent in the whole region. This gave negative repercussions on all subsequent phases. The year was then marked by the high temperatures and the drought that affected the whole region, difficult to compensate through irrigation rescue operations because of the lack of rain. These conditions have resulted in an insignificant incidence of disease in the entire region and in healthy grapes, with a higher gradation than the last five years. The drought damages the youngest Sangiovese vineyards. The rains at the beginning of September have instead raised the grapes quality level in our oldest vineyards. Harvest was anticipated 18/21 days.
Excellent vintage. It was a generally regular climate year, without health issues for the vineyards. the only event to attract the growers’ attention was the lack of rain late July during veraison, but the drought was relieved by rain in late August and early eptember. Steady warm weather without peaks of excessive heat in the final month maintained the balance and helped the grapes to ripen perfectly without over-maturation.
Excellent vintage. The weather was extremely regular and respected ideal conditions at every stage and season. A cold and relatively dry winter. A spring characterised by wet weather in March and April, and dry weather in May and June, always with regular temperatures, guaranteeing perfect growth of the vegetation and excellent flowering and fruit set of the grapes. The summer was hot, with maximum temperatures in July, but also featuring very positive temperature swings from hot days to cool evenings and nights, which ensured constant growth of the bunches without stress. The month of August, which was also hot, was characterised by sporadic rainfall that ensured a good start to the ripening of the crop. Harvesting took place between mid-September and early October in dry and windy weather.
